[Shuu Survey] How do you watch anime?

Post by Julia »

There are so many ways to watch anime these days!! What are your most often used methods? You can choose up to 5 options, and the poll runs for 15 days!

My usual method is to watch a few episodes on fansub if the series isn't licensed yet, then if I like it I wait till it gets licensed to watch the rest with a legit method, usually streaming. If I really like a series and think it will be rewatchable, I'll buy a physical copy.

Downloading (1st selection)
Buying (2nd selection)

I usually buy what i liked when i downloaded it. But this greatly depends on what gets licensed in my region. I sometimes buy original releases from Japan (currently Mashiroiro BD and Horizon Season 1 BD)

I haven't watched much anime lately, but I usually download it from a fansub.

I have couple of licensed DVDs here (all of them won in cons or given as a present) and the quality sucks. The subs are hard to read sometimes, the image is not that great (A normal quality japanese TVrip is often better) and you have to watch them in a TV, since my computer does not have DVD drive (I have one, but I never used it and I removed it from the computer).

Also, the retail DVDs, not to mention blu rays, are incredibly overpriced. If for some reason I want to buy a licensed DVD I usually wait couple of months or just buy it in a cheaper country (Since I never watch it dubbed it doesn't really matter as long as it has english or spanish subs). When buying a retail DVD almost all the money goes to the local publisher to cover dubbing and editing costs, and almost always that work is so crappy it's not worth it.

I understand that point. I don't mind supporting the publishers over here, but I won't buy a DVD if it has onlu bubs on it. I prefer watching it with subs (english or french for me)

Fansub, then TV and stuff that my family brought. Quality makes my eyes and ears bleed… more the latter than the former btw, and it has stupid region lock everywhere so bleh :/

I usually try and find it on youtube, even though its sometimes hard to watch 'cause its broken into like 5 videos. I try Hulu, though I don't pay for the premium and if Hulu doesn't have it, I'll go to Crunchyroll, or wait for it to come to something I use. My T.V doesn't really have any anime programs to watch :( I know there are some out there, but my T.V provider doesn't provide them and that makes me sad :(

Yeah, the official releases can be incredibly overpriced. The price is the only thing keeping me from buying Madoka Magica. I watched that with fansubs as it came out, and when I want to rewatch it, I have a thing that lets me watch it on CrunchyRoll on my TV 8)

I hate when official releases have those ugly yellow subtitles, although that seems to be less common these days than it used to be.

I think the only anime I have seen in the movie theater are Howl's Moving Castle and the Yugioh movie. (Possibly the first Pokemon movie too, but that was a long time ago and I don't recall.)
I wanted to go see Sacred Star of Milos when it came to my city, but it was only one night, was way far away from where I live, and started at 10pm. I'm not going that far out of my way to watch a movie that got mixed reviews.

There is very little anime on TV these days unless you pay for an anime-specific channel on your plan, which our household doesn't. The SciFi channel used to show some anime like Ghost in the Shell and stuff several years back. Cartoon Network used to show more good anime too. I forget what channel I caught an ep of TTGL on.

Unlicensed and downloading.
Unlicensed because I don't care about quality that much. And I will never go on licensed ones. Because they don't have that many anime. I'd better go to my trusted anime streaming site rather than try crunchyroll or hulu or whatever license site.

Though I'm sad I can't download Eden's Bowy.... it's rare to find it online. Does ANYONE know where I can download it? If so PM me on the board or on the forum. Pleassseeeee.

I usually just download fansubs. It's easier for me since I really only watch currently airing shows nowadays and they usually come out the same time every week in good quality.

I'll buy it if I enjoy it and it is released in my country though.

I usually download from fansub groups.
Very few anime are licensed in Italy, and often with lots of censoring/cuts, so I rarely get the chance to buy any series.
And I'm not fluent enough in any language to buy them online. ''OTL

Yep. Yep. It's no exaggeration when she says "WAY too expensive".
I mean a simple boxed thing from Japan on a lower thing payment cost me... 50 Euro? ... three weeks of waiting. And no, I didn't pay for anything. It was a reverse tax shipping.
