also maybe a headband tag?

Crown?

Polearm? You know for staves, spears, naginata, and halbreds?

I mean we have a sword and gun tag.

I think the "ribbon" tag has this included. It may not be a bad idea though.

Guns and Swords are the most common weapons in images. Everything else just kinda falls under the "weapon" tag.

However, I was under the impression that the tagging system is here to make searching easier and more accurate.

Searching under "weapon" pulls up 368 pages of results. And that will just grow. With the maximum image viewing limit at 15 images per page, that's quite a lot to go through.

Unless I'm mistaken and there's a way to EXCLUDE a tag from a search

Member talking here but if Shuu adds all the tags you ask for the organized way as Shuu now has is completly gone. You have to add a tag of every colour in the rainbow for hair, add every possible weapon and even some toher clothing. It's kinda confusing fort the image posters and even for the people searching through the images.

First of all, cynical posts don't do much to help your standings so I highly discourage them.

Say we implement the "polearm" tag. It would only begin to snowball. Daggers, since they're not as long as swords? Magic Staffs for mages? But then we'd have to implement magic wand since of course, wands aren't staffs.

The point is, simplicity is the key here. An over abundance of specific tags is only going to become tedious, troublesome, and most are just unnecessary for the number of images they embody. We don't need 5000 tags for specific types of clothing, nor do we really need 50 tags for specific weapons. It would never end and then the system would just collapse on itself.

If you think that's bad, try the "long hair" tag.

There is no such function yet. At least, not that I'm aware of.

Tagging system is supposed to be simple. If you think lots of pages is annoying, then tough luck. This is not danbooru.

Remember this is a tag "suggestion" thread. Not "demand tags here!" thread.

Well... I appreciate the suggestions, but Ran makes a good point. We can't attempt to model the real world using the tagging system. There is a limit on how detailed we will get with tags. While we don't have any specific rules on this, if we think a suggested tag will not be applied to more than a few images, we probably won't create it.

Now, if you can come up with enough examples from the image board and show us images that definitely would fit your proposed tags, those proposed tags will have a much better chance of being created.

First of all, I was not being cynical.

I honestly do not see the problem in specific tags, since I have seen several posts where abundance of tagging is praised, or on the other hand people are quick to mention if a tag was left out.

Now I can see where you're coming from, too many tags would be confusing. Heck one could break up "sword" into "rapier" "broadswoard" "katana" "tsurugi" "one-handed" "two-handed" Gun could be broken up into machine gun, gatling, pistol, rifle

dresses? sundress, long dress, short dress, formal dress, wedding dress, pink dress, yellow dress, strapless dress, backless dress.

Now that is ridiculous.

However I suggested polearm, because I thought it would be a useful tag and would cover several basis underneath it.

And Lily-san.. o-o; I wasn't being demanding.

And Anony-san, I shall do that

The line seemed to have a sarcastic tone behind it when I read it. If I was mistaken, then I apologize.

People that take the time to use the proper tags are praised. Just throwing out a large number of tags can be bad as some tags may not apply.

I'll forward the suggestion to the tagging team and mods to give it a review. To be honest, it may have some merit since you make a good point that it coveres halberds, spears, and the like.

Users lately pay too much attention to the tags. If they take their time to tag most things in the image properly, then yes, they'll be praised. That doesn't necessarily mean a great number of tags is what we expect. We just expect images to be tagged properly.

I'm sorry, but you seemed demanding to me. Not being the first time we tell you specific tags are not a good idea and all.

*Smithy facepalms once more.*
(Note cynicism.)

Btw, why would you want to exclude a tag from a search? A search only yields as results the images with the tag(s) -and other settings if applicable- that you selected.

Actually, this would be quite useful am I really need to work on implementing this...
For example, it would be handy to search for images with "mizugi" but not "water float". Searches like that... I should start working on this...

Well I gather it could be for people who wish to do bulk searches for images of a certain type, but I'm not sure how ideal it would be when searching a specific image from a certain type or batch, since you'd risk eliminating it from the results by being too specific.

Although I said before I wouldn't involve myself in any such discussions anymore, I think it could be a nice idea to keep tags functional and practical, if you have too many tags and specify images too much you'll risk erring towards the other side, away from the middle ground into a system where too many tags exist to keep it practical. You won't be able to see the forest through the trees anymore.
