This page aims at providing a quick reference on tags which people usually have problems with. For more details, see the tags page. It's important to tag what you see. This guide will be here for any help you may need.

^_^

Intended with characters with their eyes closed upward and smiling or not. Like: ^_^. Not like: v_v. You can complete it with "happy" or "smile" or ":3"

:3

For characters with their mouths in the "3" shape, like a cat.

4koma

For four panel manga. Not more, not less.

Ahoge

An intentional piece of hair that sticks up. Usually in the front or back of the head.

Albino

For characters with white hair and red eyes. Require both "red eyes" and "white hair" tags.

Apron

Goes over the clothes, can be frilly, but can't be naked! It's not necessary to add if for "maid" and "waitress".

Barefoot

One bare foot is enough to be tagged. When there is stockings, sandals, or shoes, the tag shouldn't be applied. The tag does apply is the foot is partially but not completely covered by bandages.

Beach

It requires sand. It doesn't include the sea. If you can see the sea in the image, also use the tag "water".

Birthday

For birthday celebrations, including cake, presents, etc. Not for simple images with "Happy Birthday" written on it.

Bloomer

Bloomer are sport clothing, not fluffy undergarment

Boots

Footwear that covers most of the lower leg and sometimes up to the thigh.

Chinese dress

Not meant for Chinese pants/outfits. For dresses!

Cosplay

A real life person dressing up as an anime or manga character. Does not apply to anime characters dressing up as another anime character.

Couple

Two people who appear to be in love, are showing affection, etc. Does not apply if they are a couple in the series but it is not shown in the image. Does apply if it is shown in the image but is not true in the series.

Crossover

When a character is dressed as another character in a different anime, featured with a different character, portraying as another character, or it has an element of another series in another.

Curly Hair

Curly hair is not wavy hair. It should take the form of loops or drills. Kasane Teto and Ririka Tsukimori are good examples.

Devil

Can be tagged as such if the character has some of these element: "wings" "horn" "pointy ears" It's the mix of these element that make a character devil. Devilish smiling is not enough.

Doll

You must be able to see their joints/doll parts. Dolls who are so within a series should not have this tag unless you can tell they are dolls in the image.

Fairy

Small girls with wings. Not the same as "tenshi".

Fan

Both for hand held fans and electronic fans.

Fang

For those pointy little teeth.

Flower

To be applied for whole flowers or flower petals that are not sakura.

Food

For anything commonly edible in an image, except cake, sweets, or ice cream, which have their own tags. If a character is eating the food, replace the food tag with "eating".

Freckles

Natural points on the face. Not to be confused with blush line.

Gaming

Can be applied both when a person is playing a game or there is a game/game controller in the image.

Gothic

Gothic is not "lolita fashion". Gothic use rather dark cloth, without frill. Other prominent item is spiky bracelet or necklace and belt.

Group

For three or more people.

Hair Band

Not to be confused with "headdress" which have frills. A hair band is a simple accessory that hold the hair in place by tightening around the head. A ribbon might be tied on it for esthetic.

Happy

Not to be confused with "smile". It should be used with people having their mouth open, as in :D

Hime

The hime tag can be used for all girls showing sign of royalty, such as a crown or scepter.

Horns

Can also work for only one horn. May be applied for deer type antlers.

Ice

For ice in an image. Can be applied for Cirno's wings only if they appear as ice.

Jacket

Meant for long sleeves, not pullovers or vests. You should be able to see something underneath it.

Kimono

A long kimono or if you cannot tell whether it's short or long.

Magic

Can apply to pretty much any supernatural abilities visibly being used in the image, even if they are not called "magic" in that series; for example FMA's alchemy, or the Conduit abilities from inFAMOUS. Usually involves colorful lights flying around~

Mahou Shoujo

For girls with magic girl appearance. Frilly clothing, wands, etc. Not for someone casting serious magic. For spell casting, you can add "magic"

Maid

For multiple paneled manga, except 4.

Megane

For eyeglasses. Not the same as the "goggles" or "sunglasses" tags.

For hairbuns, one or two.

Onsen

Hot springs in which people bath. It's generally outdoor. It should not be confused with household bathtubs.

Sakura

Cherry blossoms. Can be on tree or floating through the air. If you see the trunk or the branch of the tree, you can add the "tree" tag.

School Mizugi

Often of dark blue, or white color, there might also be a name tag on the chest. The mizugi can also be split in two parts, and there is often a seam down the side.

Seifuku

Seifuku is a school uniform. It includes already the eventual "skirt" and "ribbon" tag if they are part of it. However, "jacket", "hat", and "tie" are not included and should be added when seen. If a seifuku is also a dress, both the "seifuku" and "dress" tags may be added.

Short Kimono

A kimono cut to the knee or elbow.

Suit

For formal images with males or females dressed up with slacks, blazer, and tie/bow tie. When containing a jacket or a tie with the suit, it still needs to be tagged.

Sweat

For multiple sweatdrops. Usually appears when it's hot or after physical activities.

Sweatdrop

A bead of sweat. It's used so as to represent emotions such as embarrassment, exasperation, confusion or shock.

Randoseru

School backpack used for primary school.

Scenic

Image must be focused on the background rather than the girl. A majority of the image should be something other than the characters.

Smile

Not to be confused with "happy". Smile is usually closed mouth, having this shape :). Teeth can be visible.

Stars

Shining dot in the sky at night. Include also stars shaped object.

Tenshi

Should be used for white wings, and/or halo.

Thigh Highs

For stocking above the knee. It shouldn't be use for pantyhose which totally cover the legs, thus not revealing skin at all.

Trap

Biologically male, crossdressed to look female. Only allowed if they canonically crossdress. Also applies to girls that look like boys ("Reverse Trap").

Uniform

Include all sorts of uniform, except "nun" "waitress" "maid" "seifuku".

Vampire

For girls with vampire traits (pale skin, fangs, wings, etc.) showing signs of bloodlust, drinking blood, etc. Vampires who are so within a series should not have this tag unless you can tell they are vampires in the image.

Waitress

A servant in a cafe, or restaurant. Can be distinguished with the apron, which only protect the skirt contrary to the maid. In case of maid cafe, don't use the "waitress" tag.

Wand

For miko, mahou shoujo, and magic wands. Not for use with staffs.

Warrior

If it doesn't fit "ninja" "samurai" "valkyrie" or "soldier". Can be used for people wearing armor.

Waterfloat

Both for circular waterfloats or board waterfloats (kickboards).

Witch

Requires a witch-like appearance. Hat, broom, etc.
