Fanart that takes liberties with character designs

Post by DoomTay »

Let's say you have this image. Someone identifies a character shown as so-and-so. When someone brings up the unlikelihood thereof due to different traits, the common rebuttal is that it's fanart, and thus the artist has chosen to utilize a different character design

Has this actually happened? Have there been cases where a character is different from, yet similar to a certain character, and it can be proven that the artist intended him/her to be that character, like in the tags or filename and such?

People tend to forget that it actually IS FANart.

That's why it always annoys me (on a different yet similar case) when people see a girl that's similar to Miku and they ask "Isn't this Miku?". IT ANNOYS ME! AAAAARRRRGHHH! /thud
