The end of anime...?

Post by softfang »

I heard that on April 1st, a law will be passed banning anime/manga from the US. WTF IS UP WITH THAT?!

I've made a petition to fight against it, though I don't think it'll help much... >_<

I think most people are concerned by the Tokyo Youth Bill which push all sort of suggestive manga to the R-18 corner ( criteria are still unknown ), and there is also a law in Japan to increase by 4 the export of Japanese culture by 2020, anime and manga included.

Uh softfang....I think you may have gotten your information wrong. The bill which Merun mentioned goes into effect on April 1st and only applies to new stuff created after that date which includes manga, anime, and games. That law does not even apply to the states because you'd have people riled up about how the politicians are "following orders from a foreign country".

It's not like it's a ban on anime anyway. Just a change in the way they label R-18. :T
Which will probably cause future anime to ride less on the edges and go into all out porn...and then, of course, less will be adapted here, and etc. But it's not a ban.

I agree that the R-18 amount of anime has increased lately. But now that I see some favorite old anime in remake ... I don't mind. Actually I don't mind at all! Just don't stop producing Detective Conan, Fate/Stay Night, Tsukihime and Kara no Kyoukai related stuff :D

Well, if there are only those remaining, the industry will fall. The problem is that there isn't a clear border between what is good for the youth and the R-18 stuff. Also there isn't a middle ground, say, PG-13. The fear is that fanservice = R-18 = less sale.

Now personally, I find it ridiculous that politics have once against stepped on parental ground, but I guess this a poor excuse for the lack of responsibility of people: "let the politics do everything". This law pure demagogy scheme in which they gain political ground and of course it doesn't deal with more important issue like the strong yen, which is a killer for Japan's exportation.

The politicians there bow down to everything and step away! Corrupted old men! Their status for the past decade went to their heads.

China's politicians are even more ridiculous ... banning English from Chinese websites? Because the English language is violating their culture?? What???

Oh and regarding parents .... can't they realize it's they own fault for letting them stay up late in the night when ~R-18 related anime are broadcasted? Ohhhh, they have TVs in their bedroom? Still your fault for buying them one.

Well... I think I shouldn't say anymore about it. That kind of comment is better off on Sankaku.
