This page aims at providing a quick reference on tags which people usually have problems with. For a list of all of the tags, see Theme Tags. It's important to tag what you see. This guide will be here for the hardest of tags.

4koma

For four panelled manga only. Does not require the manga tag.

:3

For characters with their mouths in the '3' shape, like a cat.

Ahoge

An intentional piece of hair that sticks up.

Anthropomorphism

Creatures or objects personified as humans.

Ao dai

Vietnamese clothing.

Bloomers (gym shorts)

Gym shorts, not the fluffy undergarment.

E-Chuuchuu

Require no other tags. For more information see E-chuuchuu.

Gyaru

Style of fashion. Possibly tanned skin, gaudy jewellery, vibrant nail polish, loose clothes, blonde hair, etc. Also for gyaruo (male gyaru) and ganguro (fake tan, bleached haired gyaru) fashion.

Hakana

A traditional pleated skirt that goes from the waist to the ankles, often worn over a kimono and tied with a bow at the front.

Hanbok

Traditional Korean clothing.

Heterochromia

A character with each eye a different colour. Eye color must still be tagged.

Kotatsu

A low wooden table covered by a blanket or futon, with a tabletop above. Underneath is a heat source, often built into the table itself.

Lolita fashion

An outfit that often consists of a bell-shape, knee-length, frilly dress/skirt with a Victorian influence. Not for actual Victorian clothing.

Mahou Shoujo

For girls with magic girl appearance. Frilly clothing, wands, etc. Not for someone casting serious magic. For spell casting, you can add "magic"

Megane

For eyeglasses. Not the same as the goggles or sunglasses tags.

Miko

For shrine maidens or shrine maiden outfits.

Mimi

Ears. Tags include:

inu mimi = dog ears
kitsune mimi = fox ears
neko mimi = cat ears
ookami mimi = wolf ears
tora mimi = tiger ears
usa mimi = rabbit ears

Mizugi

Swimsuit. School swimsuits should instead be tagged with school mizugi (often dark-blue or white one-piece swimsuit with a name tag on the chest).

Musume

Girl or daughter. Used in the mecha musume tag.

Odango

Hairbuns, one or two.

Onsen

Hot springs in which people bath. It's generally outdoor. It should not be confused with household bathtubs.

Qipao

Chinese dress. Not meant for Chinese pants/outfits. For dresses!

Race queen

Models for automotive events. May be posing next to a vehicle.

Randoseru

School backpack with a curved top used for primary/elementary school. Usually red.

Sakura

Cherry blossoms. Can be on a tree or floating through the air.

Seifuku

A school/sailor uniform. Does not need skirt or ribbon tag if they are part of it. However, jacket, hat, and tie should be added when seen. If a seifuku is also a dress, both tags may be added.

Sarashi

Chest Bandages.

Tenshi

Angel. Should be used for white wings, and/or halo.

Teru Teru Bozu

Rain doll.

Trap

Biologically male, cross-dressing to look female. Only allowed if they canonically cross-dress. Also applies to girls that look like boys ('reverse trap').

For characters with their eyes closed upward: ^_^. Not downward: v_v. Does not have to be smiling; mouth expression or emotion should also be tagged if applicable.

-It requires sand. It doesn't include the sea. If you can see the sea in the image, also use the tag "water".

-For birthday celebrations, including cake, presents, etc.  Not for simple images with "Happy Birthday" written on it.
-===Bloomer===
-Bloomer are sport clothing, not fluffy undergarment
-===Boots===
-Footwear that covers most of the lower leg and sometimes up to the thigh.
-===Chinese dress===
-Not meant for Chinese pants/outfits.  For dresses!
-===Cosplay===
-A real life person dressing up as an anime or manga character. Does not apply to anime characters dressing up as another anime character.
-===Couple===
-Two people who appear to be in love, are showing affection, etc.  Does not apply if they are a couple in the series but it is not shown in the image.  Does apply if it is shown in the image but is not true in the series.
-===Crossover===
-When a character is dressed as another character in a different anime, featured with a different character, portraying as another character, or it has an element of another series in another.
-===Curly Hair===
-Curly hair is not wavy hair. It should take the form of loops or drills. [http://e-shuushuu.net/search/results/?char=Kasane+Teto Kasane Teto] and [http://e-shuushuu.net/search/results/?char=Ririka+Tsukimori Ririka Tsukimori] are good examples.
-===Devil===
-Can be tagged as such if the character has some of these element:
-"wings" "horn" "pointy ears"
-It's the mix of these element that make a character devil. Devilish smiling is not enough.

-You must be able to see their joints/doll parts.  Dolls who are so within a series should not have this tag unless you can tell they are dolls in the image.

-Small girls with wings. Not the same as "tenshi".
-===Fan===
-Both for hand held fans and electronic fans.
-===Fang===
-For those pointy little teeth.
-===Flower===
-To be applied for whole flowers or flower petals that are not sakura.

-For anything commonly edible in an image, except cake, sweets, or ice cream, which have their own tags. If a character is eating the food, replace the food tag with "eating".
-===Freckles===
-Natural points on the face. Not to be confused with blush line.
-===Gaming===

-If it doesn't fit "ninja" "samurai" "valkyrie" or "soldier". Can be used for people wearing armor.

-Both for circular waterfloats or board waterfloats (kickboards).

-Requires a witch-like appearance.  Hat, broom, etc.
